I was in a conversation recently with some people who are very dear to me, we hadn’t seen each-other for 7 years. We got to talking about how hard it can be to look into the deepest desires of our heart and dare to believe that God is calling these things into being in our lives.
I’m talking about those deep desires, the deepest longings, the things we know make us who we are, but are buried under fears, doubts, and years of assault from the enemy and even those close to us.
If you are seeking your “Calling” as a Christian, you need look no further than your heart, because what you love to do, what moves you, is how God made you to be. If you deny these things, fear them, you will be forever looking for something else to fill the gap. And yes, I’m talking to myself here!
Now, listening to your heart takes maturity. As a new Christian there were many things I thought God was calling me to. We all need to grow through reading the Word and spending time in His presence with NO AGENDA of our own. Other Christian friends and leaders can also help us identify this buried treasure, and of course spending time in worship and prayer, as well as letting your heart be stirred by scripture, song, a sunset…
If we were all to let ourselves shine with the “glory” God has placed inside us, not fearing it or what the world would think, I believe we would see the Kingdom of God come so much more in our everyday lives, and those around us touched by the Truth and Glory of God.
Thanks to the work of The Noble Heart ministry (www.thenobleheart.com) for helping me get a better understanding of what Calling really means.
